Quick Overview
Ever since being approved for the The Platinum Card® from American Express, I’ve had the ability to access American Express Centurion Lounges in airports around the United States and the world. After traveling to over 40 countries, my wife, Jenny, and I have created our top 10 favorite Centurion Lounges.
Disclaimer
I have not been to every Centurion Lounge in the world, but I will be updating this list every time I make a visit to one of these premium airport lounges. Changes are inevitable for any lounge, so information in this post may be out of date.
United States Lounges I Haven’t Visited
- Atlanta (ATL)
- Charlotte (CLT)
- Las Vegas (LAS)
- New York (LGA)
- Philadelphia (PHL)
- Washington D.C. (DCA)
International Lounges I Haven’t Visited
- London (LHR)
- Mumbai (BOM)
- Delhi (DEL)
- São Paulo (GRU)
- Melbourne (MEL)
- Mexico City (MEX)
- Monterrey (MTY)
- Sydney (SYD)
Sorry to anyone who thinks these lounges are great, but maybe I’ll visit soon and some of these will be at the top of my list.
#10 – Phoenix (PHX)
This is my home airport, so I wish this lounge was better.
- Inconvenient location in the airport
- Food hasn’t been great every time I’m here
- Enough space, but not the best seating options
This Centurion Lounge is directly next to an Escape Lounge, so I might try that next time.
#9 – New York (JFK)
A very popular lounge for connecting to international destinations.
- Bad location in the airport, unless your flight is departing from terminal 4
- Plenty of seats, but feels cramped
- Good espresso martinis
Last time I visited, airport security took almost an hour with Clear + TSA PreCheck. Probably don’t try to visit if your departing flight is not in terminal 4.
#8 – Hong Kong (HKG)
The first international Centurion Lounge mention on this list.
- Decent food and bar
- Not a huge space, but great view of a few airplanes
My wife and I almost missed our plane on Cathay Pacific to Taipei, Taiwan because we didn’t realize our gate was a 20 minute walk from the lounge.
#7 – Dallas (DFW)
I’ve only visited one time, but I had a long wait to enter.
- Good location in airport. Terminal D close to the Skylink train
- Food was below my expectations, but still ok
I tried to visit the Capital One Lounge, but the wait time was 45 minutes, where the wait time for the Centurion Lounge was 30 minutes.
#6 – Stockholm, Sweden (ARN)
My highest rated international lounge, but I’ve only been to two.
- I enjoyed ordering my meal and having it brought to my table
- From the American Express website, it appears you are entitled to 1 complimentary guest
This lounge looks to be updated since I visited, so it may be higher on my list if I return.
#5 – Miami (MIA)
I’d love to visit again.
- Awkward entrance with people crowding the elevator waiting to leave lounge
- Area away from the main section was quiet and comfortable
Seems like a far walk from other gates, so make sure to leave a little early.
#4 – Denver (DEN)
One of my more frequented lounges.
- Close to train for connecting flights in other area of airport
- Plenty of seating
- Food is average, sometimes better
Last time I was there they were very strict about only giving out 1 alcoholic drink per person at a time, which led to a large line at the bar.
#3 – Los Angeles (LAX)
Maybe my most visited Centurion Lounge
- Long walk from lounge to many domestic departures
- I’ve never had to wait in line to enter this lounge
- 2nd bar is open when busy
My wife is sad they’ve removed the complimentary massage, but this was to create more seating.
#2 – San Francisco (SFO)
I want to fly out of San Francisco more often
- The further away from the food, the quieter the lounge becomes
- Food was great
I had an 8 hour layover, but I didn’t mind sitting in this lounge all day.
#1 – Seattle (SEA)
Renovated lounge is way better than the old lounge.
- Food is usually amazing
- Centrally located in airport
- Often has a wait to get in, but it’s worth it
My wife always asks if we can have a layover in Seattle on our way to Asia.
My Take
American Express Centurion Lounges are fantastic places to eat, drink, and relax before a short or long flight. There are a couple ways to access Centurion Lounges and my favorite way is with the American Express Platinum card.
